A Message from the President
Being a part of an all volunteer organization can be a very empowering feeling. This empowerment lets us set the
highest of goals and focus our efforts on strategies for bringing precision and success to these goals. Membership in
Assistance League of Austin is a chance to investigate new experiences, learn new skills and support others in their
efforts. We are indeed an all volunteer group of mostly women who have set
our sights on improving the quality of
life for those less fortunate in the Austin community.
Assistance League of Austin is one of more than 120 chapters chartered by National Assistance League where
Caring and
Commitment in Action is the motto. Assistance League was the first nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization
founded in the West to recognize the potential of volunteers in helping those less fortunate to a better, more meaningful
life. We strive to conduct extensive community needs assessments, develop programs according to these needs, generate funding and staff each program. It is through our diverse programs, that we are able to put "Caring and
Commitment in Action" by: Helping students gain self esteem with new clothes; Helping critically ill children feel
joy with a new toy and book; Helping senior citizens enjoy a day out; Helping scholars at Austin Community College
achieve a dream; and Helping assault survivors cope.
Come join us. We are colleagues, friends, and family.
“You will discover that you have two hands. One is for helping yourself and the other is for helping others.”

Sincerely,
Sue Vasser,
President 2011-2012
